SPHE

You have been working so hard for the last seven weeks. For the next two weeks while we are waiting to get back to school I am going to post some mindful moments for you. They are only 10 minutes long but it is important to take time out sometimes. Find a space in your house that you love being, grab you favourite cushion or blanket and get comfy while you listen to this. Close your eyes and relax: Mindful moments

I enjoying doing some mindful colouring to help me relax so I have attached a picture for you to colour if you would like here:

We chatted a few weeks ago about gratitude and we came up with some things we can be grateful for. I would like you do a gratitude list again today. You can print the picture out below or you can just draw them into your copy!

Reading: Starlight read p130

Dictionary word game: https://wordwall.net/resource/11377105

Activity:Correct your answers from yesterday.

Starlight p132 do all of E

One of the most used (and boring) words in the English language is ‘said.’ Imagine if ‘said’ was dead and you weren’t allowed use it anymore. In activity E in your Starlight you just have to write a different word for said for the first five sentences, you do not have to write the full sentence. Use the pictures below to help you pick suitable replacements for the word said. For the bottom 6 sentences write the whole sentence out. Make it as funny or as crazy as you like. Use your imagination.

Gaeilge

1. F+F p68 do E+F

2. Vocab sheet – continue revising your vocab from your sheet.

3. We only have three days left on the theme of eadaí. For the last three days we are going to plan a mini fashion show. If you have a printer you can print out the activity sheet otherwise just write it into your copy. Have a look at my example to help you with what to write. Before you begin you need to decide what ‘post’ (job) you would prefer. Would you prefer to be ‘ag caitheamh na headaí faiseanta’ (wearing the clothes) or would you prefer to be the ‘láithreoir’ (presenter). In my example Sean is the model and Liam is the presenter. Don’t forget to draw your picture! Or why not dress up yourself in your own clothes and take a picture and then describe yourself!

Watch this video if you need a little more help in understanding what to do.

Science

Food Glorious Food.

Why do we need food to survive? What would happen if we only ever ate chocolate? Would it be healthy is we only ever ate carrots? Today we are going to look at why we actually need food and why it is so important to have a balanced diet.

Healthy food – watch this video as an introduction before we start.

You can see from the video why it is important to eat now lets take a look at how food is divided up into different groups. The main ones are carbohydrates, proteins, fats and vitamins and minerals. Can you think of any foods you eat that might fit into these groups before we read about them?

A balanced diet will contain foods from all of the groups. Here is a picture of how much of each of the foods is recommended.

For the activity for Science today you have a choice. You can either do activity 1 or activity 2. Do both activities if you want to!

Activity 1:

Choose three foods you have at home and make a prediction of how much carbs, protein or fat it contains. The picture below will help show you what to do.

Activity 2:

Food quiz Take the quiz above and see if you can place all the foods in the correct place on the food pyramid.

Geography

City Life vs Island Life
Last week we were looking at similarities and differences between Clare Island and Cork City. Today we are going to look at Care Island’s natural environment and Cork City in a bit more detail. Read the three pages below before answering the questions.
Clare Island

If you would like more information on Clare Island you can click here: https://clareisland.info/
Cork City

If you would like more information on Cork City click here:  https://purecork.ie/

Now I would like to take out your atlas and open up a page on Ireland. If you would prefer you can use Google maps instead. First you need to find Clare Island and then find Cork City.

When you have those find all of the five places listed below and try to decide is Clare Island or Cork city closer to it. Remember it is ‘as the crow flies.’
