Science Alive!

We have had so much fun in Junior and Senior Infants during the past 6 weeks watching our 5 baby caterpillars go into their chrysalides and grow into 5 beautiful painted lady butterflies! Each day we watching them eating, sleeping and crawling around their home. Then we watched in amazement as one butterfly at a time went into it’s cocoon where a magical transformation was taking place! 17 days later our beautiful butterflies finally hatched! It was so exciting!

We called them Lola, Rihanna, Church, Alexis and Rosie. They loved fresh flowers, strawberries and oranges. We made nectar using sugar and water which we sprinkled on top of their food! We even got to have a taste too! Have a look at the photos of each stage below.

Today all the Junior and Senior Infant classes released them together in the big field so be sure to look out for them in Upper Glanmire during the holidays!
