While you are reading it see if you notice the rhyming pattern, can you hear the rhyming words? Where are the rhyming words located? Does the rhyming pattern happen in all three verses?

When you have read the poem a few times I would like you to create a new poem based on this poem. You can use 50% or half of the words the poet uses but try to put in your own ingredients. It does not have to rhyme.

Long multiplication.

Take a look at PM p. 86.

Before we move on to the next step of long multiplication, we are going to learn how to make the larger multiplication sum into two smaller parts. It is important to understand this as this is what you will be doing in long multiplication. We are going to do all of A1 on p. 86 today but, watch both of the videos below before you start as I want you to do the sums in two different ways.

PM p86 A1 a-f like this: A1 (a-f)

PM p86 A1 g-i like this: A1 (g-i)

If you would like a challenge you could work out the answer to all 9 sums (like the second video). Remember the more you practice the easier they will get and the faster you will become at doing them!

Part 2: I am sure loads of you have heard of the Jerusalema dance by now. We are going to try and do it and I will add all of the videos together to create one big class video. Long Multiplication:

Yesterday we reminded ourselves how to multiply by 10. Today we are looking at what happens when we multiply by other decibels (multiples of 10). Watch this video  below and then open PM p85 and do C 2,3+4 (just do a,b+c in each sum. Nine sums to do altogether)  It is very important to lay out the sum exactly as I have it laid out in the video. Please remember only one number per box.

When we say something is too or very expensive in English we just put ‘too’ or ‘very’ in front of the word e.g. too expensive, too dear, too long. In Gaeilge when we want to say too or very we put in front of the word and the next word gets a h e.g. too long = fhada, too small = bheag.

SPHE Today is internet safety day. Internet safety is as important as ever now that we are learning from home. We are constantly online and it is very important to know what is expected of us when we are playing or learning on the internet.

1. So what exactly is the internet? Welcome to the internet

2. As well as us being careful online we also need to understand that bullying can happen online. It is called cyber bullying when it happens online. The guards take cyber bullying very seriously so it is important to understand exactly what it is: https://vimeo.com/350101859

You might be surprised to hear that exclusion or leaving people out is also a type of bullying. Left out of a group text

Has something like this ever happened to you? Or maybe you intentionally left someone out not knowing that it was a type if bullying.

Did you ever block someone to join your Fortnight game but invited the rest of the class.

What about a snapchat group did you ever exclude someone because they didn’t live in your park or because they haven’t turned 10 yet?

What would you do if you were invited to join a group or a game that everyone was in but one of your friends didn’t get invited?

Monday 8th  February

Happy 10th birthday to Craig!

Good morning and happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend and are ready to get stuck into another week of work. I am very happy to say we managed to reach 50 books so I have a voucher ready to go for one item writing homework off when we get back to school. If you want to change this to ‘no writing homework pass’ then try and get to 100 books! We have some chancers in the class and they are clicking through a book and clicking finished book on the last page. I would like to tell you that this does not count, you have to actually read the book

You will find the corrections from Friday here: Answers from Friday

Have a look at Reina’s SCRATCH project here: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/483704602

Each day I will post a new SCRATCH project. If you are finished yours and would like the class to see it please send me the link.

Mini project this week is an art one. Construction mini project

Good luck with all of your work today!

Ms. Fogarty.

Maths Correct your MYM test from Friday

Tables:

We have revised and learnt all of our multiplication and division tables since we returned to school in September. I would like you to revise your tables by playing games over the next few weeks. It is very important to keep revising your tables particularly your multiplication now that we are starting long multiplication.

I will be posting different games every couple of days but  Daily 10 (try to do level 5 in one of the tables to challenge yourself) and  Hit the button are great to help you revise your tables.

The new game today is:  Penguin jump

You can simply click play now to play against randomly selected people. If you want to play against your friends why not create a private game and give your friends the password (keep the password simple like 123 or 000). Or you could create a private game and play against someone at home!

Long multiplication.

This week we are starting long multiplication. We do not have any MYM this week so that should give you extra time to work on the maths I give you each day. It will take you longer than normal to do your maths but the more time you spend at it the faster you will get.

  • Turn to Planet Maths p.85 and look at B. All of these sums are x10 which we love! Our trick is to just add a zero or move everything to the left. Do you remember why we do this? Watch the video below for a reminder.

X10 Video

  • In the video below Ms. Flanagan will show you how to lay out your maths copy today. I know you can all tell me the answer to all of these sums straight away but it is very important to write out the sum exactly as it is written in the video below. You will be doing PM p.85 numbers 2-5.

PM p. 85 B

English 1. Oral language: What does family mean to you? Listen to the short story before you answer the questions orally. I was delighted to hear some of you made zoom calls to your friends in the class to chat about the questions. It would be great if you could that again this week. Starlight oral language video

Oral language questions

2. Dictionary words: harsh, dread, assured, solemn, dumbly, defiance, queried (query)

3. SL reading p122

Spellings: Most people should be finished learning their spellings from the list commonly misspelt words please let me know if you still have spellings to learn from this list. This week your spellings are the 7 dictionary words above. In your test on Friday you do not have to write the definitions with the word just the spelling.

Gaeilge F+F p61 Have a listen to me reading through the spellings for this week for pronunciation and then do A+B https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/crn1q2R8D5

Vocab sheet – Click on the sheet to see your new words and phrases to learn for today. Everything you learnt from last week will be highlighted in green and your new vocab will be highlighted in yellow. Get someone at home to ask you or why not do a zoom or phone call with a friend in the class and test each other. Vocab sheet – Monday

Excellent job to everyone who did their verbs last week. It was much trickier as you had to figure out If it was a caol or leathan verb before you decided on the ending. We also look last week at how to ask a question and give the negative of verbs (question = an + urú and negative = ní + h). This week for your verb activities I am going to give you two sentences to translate. Look at my example before you begin.

Translate the following sentences. You might find this tricky but just try your best! You will get the hang of it as the week goes on.

Example: Does he close the door every day? – An ndúnann sé an doras gach lá?

1. Does he sell milk every day? (díol)

2. He does not sell milk every day. (díol)

  • Look at the pictures below and write any 6 sentences saying what you wear.

Example: Caithim lamhainí dearg. Caithim gúna gorm agus buí.

Geography Would you rather live on a small island or live in a big city?

Over the next two days we are going to compare what it would be like to live on one of Irelands smallest islands or Cork city.

Read the information below. When you have finished I would like you to write down three ways Clare Island is different to Cork city and one way they are the same.
