Hi all and happy Wednesday to you. We are halfway through another busy week! I hope it finds you all well. Start the day by correcting Tuesday’s work and send it to me. If you need any help or clarification with the work, get in touch.

Here’s some happy news to start the day and a reminder that good things are still happening

I am looking for 6 people to show us something you would like us to see but that you can’t bring to school. This might be your pet or your favourite thing or place in your home. Whatever you want. Due to time limits I’ll take the first 6 people who get in touch to tell me they’d like to take part this week. If there are more people we can continue it on our next call.

Good morning everyone. I hope you all had a nice weekend. I posted a note on Friday (see below) about making a little change on how you submit work. Please see below.

If you can, please do today’s work but don’t send it to me until tomorrow , when you’ve done the corrections which I will post in the morning. Please self-correct your work, using either a red or green pen. Write your name clearly at the top of every page you’re sending – copies and workbooks – so I can save them to your folder.

I can then get back to you more quickly with feedback. I do think you’re all independent enough to do it but of course, if this makes life too difficult or cannot be done, just let me know.

CHANGE OF APPROACH REQUEST PLEASE.

How are you all doing? I’m going to ask to change our approach slightly please. I want us to find a happy medium where everyone is getting the most out of this difficult situation.

I’m going to ask the children to self-correct most of their work and send it to me (SOME WORK CANNOT BE SELF-CORRECTED AND I WILL DO THIS). I feel I can give you a more effective feedback. It will also free up some time to do some more tutorial videos.

So, like the other senior class teachers, Mr O’ Sullivan and Mr. Scanlon’s, work that is so you can correct work the following morning and ask that the boys and girls self-correct their own work using a red or green pen. So can you please send Friday’s work, corrected where possible, on Monday morning, then start the days work. Can I also ask that you write your NAME clearly on the top of all pages you send – every single page on every picture sent including copies and workbooks – please? I have a folder for each child and this will make it so much easier for sorting the photographs on my laptop/i-pad .

As always, email me any time you need clarification on anything.

Please attach all the assignments for that day (photographed) to one document and e-mail it to me. Example Mr O’Sullivan, Your child’s name, Monday Schoolwork. I can then either comment on said work or send you a voiceover of the feedback with the work underneath as soon as possible.

We can adjust the approach later on if needs be. This new stage of lockdown is a challenge for us all and we need to learn as we go. I know parents and students are making a huge effort over the past week and I genuinely thank you for your co-operation.

Ms Tutundjian.

Friday 15.01.2021

Hi all,

I hope all is well with you this morning.

We’ve come to the end of our first week and you have worked so hard, well done. You’ll find today’s work below. If you can, ask someone to test your spellings in both English and Gaeilge. You can do it into your test copy and show me when we’re back in class. A sibling could do this.or whoever is minding you. You can do Master Your Maths Friday test. The spellings can be self-corrected with your spelling list and Irish workbook. After that there is a nice art activity and some riddles below. I will post the answers to Friday test in the late morning so the children can self-correct them as well. Can you please send Thursday and Friday’s work at the same time and I’ll do my best to get a reply to you asap. Thanks so much for your co-operation this week.

Stay safe and well, have a nice weekend,

Ms Tutundjian.

Wednesday 13.01.2021

Hello everyone!

I hope you’re all keeping well. I loved the cold weather we were having but now it has warmed up a little bit, try to get outside for a while every day, if you can. I know it’s tempting to try to get all the work done to have it over with, but I do recommend breaking up your day. Do a little bit of movement after each bit of schoolwork you do. It will help keep up your concentration levels.

We’re halfway through the week today. I am so pleased that so many of you have been in contact. If you would like me to give you a call this week, just let me know and we can organise a time. This can be to help with schoolwork, or just to say hello!

Remember, try your best to complete the activities. If you’re having any problems, just let me know. When you’ve completed your work, please send it to me. I was delighted to see some of you have created your own email address and are in charge of sending in your own work, well done!

Here’s your work for today.

Gaeilge:

Comhrá: You should be spending at least 10 minutes on the foclóir and frásaí gach lá. There’s quite a bit of repetition on the 2 pages so keep going through them. Remember to practice the phrases at the top, not just the vocab below. Most importantly, practice saying them out loud.

Fuaimeanna & Focail: Lch 49 – Litriú – bosca 3

Lch 50 – E&F – faoin + urú. We did a lot of work on the urú before the holidays.

Abair Liom:  Go back over the digital poster and do the foclóir activity as shown in the video below.

Gramadach: Aimsir Láithreach – An dara réimniú. Please watch the video below. Scríobh amach an briathar  ‘Bailigh’ san A.Láithreach i do chóipleabhar Ghaeilge. Learn the verb endings.

Genre Writing: We are moving onto recount writing this term. A piece of recount writing tells a story of what happened. As I couldn’t hear about your Christmas in class, I want you to tell me about it as a piece of recount writing. You can choose to tell me about the whole break or pick your favourite day or event that happened over the Christmas. Make sure to make a rough plan or brainstorm of what you want to include before you start. You have until Friday to complete this activity.

You can send your story to me in any way you choose. Here are some ideas on how to send it:

  • Write your recount in your copy, take a picture and email it to me.
  • Type a story on your computer
  • Create a short video of you telling the story (you could use imovie/capcut/inshot)
  • Create a short video using pictures you took over the break. You can type in short sentences to go with your pictures or you can inset voice clips telling me about the picture.
  • Make a voice recording of your recount piece.
  • Create a comic strip or drawings telling me your story.

Tuesday 12.01.2021

Hi boys and girls,

I hope you’re all well. Thank you to those of you who sent through the work you completed yesterday. It is verty important that we all try to keep up with the work as best we can this time round. If you’re having trouble with any of the work thoughout the day, just send me an email and I can help. Also, Ms. O’Donovan (r.odonovan@upperglanmirens.ie) will be supporting me throughout lockdown so you may receive an email from her. In some cases, these teachers will be responding to the work you send into me. If there is any reason you can’t complete work, or you need extra support, please contact me so we can find a solution together. I recommend you take your time with the work, don’t rush to get it done. I am still looking for good presentation, as always.

I’ve made a short video explaining where to find the digital poster. I know some of you had trouble creating a Folens account so here’s a step by step. It will be of use over the coming weeks. For parents to get access, all you need to do is to register on FolensOnline as a teacher from your child’s school, using the relevant school roll number. You will then have access to the same resources that your child’s teacher has access to and can use the resources your child is familiar with from school. Roll Number is 15792U.

Here’s your work for today 🙂
Gaeilge:

Comhrá. You need to spend time at comhrá. Practice saying the foclóir agus frásaí out loud as you would when practising in class. Just reading through them will not be enough, say them out loud and get used to the phrases.

Why can’t we always see vibrations that sounds make?

If we can’t see vibrations, how do we know they are happening?

Why do we feel vibrations when we hum?

How do different guitar strings make different sounds?

Why do drums sound different than cymbals?

How can a loud speaker cause things around it to vibrate?

Read the following and add whatever you learnt to your VIPS

Sound reading material

That’s all for today. Thank you to everyone who has sent through work already.

Have a lovely day,

Ms Tutundjian

Good morning everyone,

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas break. It was lovely to see some of your faces on Friday to collect your books. I am so disappointed that we’re not all starting the new year together in class but let’s hope we’re all safe and back to school in a few short weeks. I included the comhrá sheets and spelling lists for the next few weeks with your books. If you’re missing it, please let me know and I can send on a link to it. If you haven’t already made an account on Folens website, it will be of great help to you over the next few weeks. It is free to sign up and you can do so here: https://www.folensonline.ie/home/

I will be posting work for each day here every morning. If you can complete the work I would love if you share it with me via email. My email address is n.tutundjian@upperglanmirens.ie. If you need any support, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Gaeilge: Éadaí.

We’re going to move on to the theme of Éadaí for now. Please mark the foclóir for this week as shown in the picture at the end of this post. You have 2 Comhrá sheets so please mark both carefully 😊

Abair Liom: Play the digital poster a few times. https://content-sandbox.folensonline.ie/programmes/AbairLiom/5th_class/resources/poster/AL_5C_ACT_CH11_009/index.html  Do you understand the story? Look at the vocabulary on p80 of Abair Liom. If you don’t know the meaning of any words, look them up. There are few words that are likely to be new to you.

In your copy write 5 sentences about what you see in the picture. Try to use some adjectives for detail.                                     Feicim _____________ sa phictiúr.

Fuaimeanna agus Focail: Lch 49, Aonad 16. Write the meanings of the words in you book:

Sioc = Frost, Ciorcal = Circle, Iora Rua = Squirrel, Sionnach = Fox, Crios = Belt, Criospaí = Crisps, Briosca= Biscuit, Scriosán = Rubber, Piorra = Pear, Giotár = Guitar, Sciorta= Skirt, Bioróir= Sharpener, Sliotar = Sliotar, Iománaí = hurler, tiománaí = Driver, ag tiomáint = Driving.

Do exercises A & B

English:

Spellings: List 7. All of these words start with the prefix ‘multi’. Learn spellings 1-5. Write the meaning of the word / definition into your spellings and vocab copy.

Starlight: p80. Read the poem Jabberwocky. If it’s tricky for you to read, watch this video instead: https://youtu.be/GLQos7-Vq8M

Answer the questions in activity A on p91.

Maths:

Master Your Maths: Week 16- WEDNESDAY. We completed Monday and Tuesday before the Christmas break.

Planet Maths: Number Theory, p80

Look at activity A and answer the following questions orally:

  1. This is the 13th odd number.
  2. This is the 2nd odd number.
  3. This number is even but 2 of its 3 digits are odd.
  4. This odd number is divisible by 13.
  5. This even number is 76 years before Columbus sailed the Atlantic Ocean.
  6. This odd number is 31 times greater than 3.
  7. This odd number is 11 times 11.
  8. This even number is perfectly divisible by 50, 10 and 5.
  9. This is the 3rd odd number.
  10. This odd number has 3 odd digits.

In your copy, complete Exercise C. You need to fill in the blank with either the word odd or even. Test your answer by using small numbers. Watch the video below.

For example, Qs 2: Even + Even =  ?

                                   2  +   2    = 4

4 is an even number, so even + even = even
