Theme 5: God cares for us in spring

  • Ask your child to recall changes that occur in spring?
  • Read the following story to your child: Ruby Rock’s Spring Challenge

It was early in the morning and Ruby Rock was perched on the branch. She spread her wings and looked at Farmer Burke’s biggest meadow.

‘Mmm wonderful, Spring is here!’ The countryside was ready to burst into life and Ruby Rock couldn’t wait to tell everyone. ‘Hello, Hello; she cawed in her sweetest voice spiring is here!’ No one heard her. ‘Oh bother, I will have to tell everyone, one by one.’

‘Tap, tap, tap’ Ruby Rock knocked with her beak at the entrance to Mrs Squirrel’s home.

‘Hello Mrs Squirrel’s Spring is here!’ She announced cheerfully. ‘Oh’ came the grumpy reply from Mrs Squirrel. ‘It is cosy in here and I still have some winter nuts. Go away and leave me in peace.’ Ruby Rock disappointedly flew to the forest floor.

‘Hello White Snowdrop! Hello Yellow Daffodil! Spring is here!’ ‘Oh’ replied the bulbs together. ‘We like it down here under the ground. Go away and leave us in peace.’

Ruby Rock was determined not give up so all day she flew around Farmer Burke’s field yelling everyone that spring had arrived. But no matter how loud she cawed no one seemed interested.

The next morning Ruby woke to the warm sun. ‘Hello Ruby Rock, a lovely spring morning isn’t it?’ Ruby Rock said disappointedly ‘but no one cares.’

‘Oh dear’ said the sun. ‘that is a problem’. Sun felt sorry for her friend and offered to help. ‘I can warm up the ground, so the bulbs would push up through the ground.’ The sun thought and added ‘ I could stay a little longer each day.’ Ruby Rock thought this was great as Mrs Squirrel would be able to get fresh food. ‘Anything else?’ Ruby Rock wondered. ‘I could ask Mr. Wind to blow a little more gentle, sometimes he doesn’t know his own strength.’

Ruby Rock watched as Mrs. Squirrel emerged to get fresh food for her young. Robin Redbreast built a nest for Mrs. Robin to lay her eggs. White Snowdrops and Yellow Daffodils appeared. The meadow was alive with activity, Spring had arrived at last.

After reading the story ask you child:

  • How had the animals and the flowers spent winter? Do you think God was looking after the animals during that time?
  • After you seen any signs of spring yet?
  • How does God look after us?

Draw a picture of spring.

Well Being – Fun at Home

*********************************************************************************************************

Good Morning,

I hope everybody is keeping safe and well during these very strange times. It is so disappointing that we had to once again close our schools for the health and safety of all. We will miss seeing the boys and girls everyday and teaching them in our classrooms.

Work for each day will be posted on my class page of the school website over the coming weeks. Please do not put yourself under pressure to complete each and every activity that is assigned. Complete and work through as many activities that you can every day. If at all possible please try your best to keep up to date with English and Maths activities.

If you have any questions Monday – Friday 9.20 – 3.00 , I am available to contact on my school email address

a.healy@upperglanmirens.ie.

If you would like to send me any videos or pictures of work completed I would be delighted to receive them.

Ms. Healy 🙂
