14th November 2016
We hope that you and your children have settled back in to school after the mid-term break. With just six weeks to the Christmas holidays, it promises to be a busy time in the school.
With Christmas in mind, we would like to inform you that our Christmas performances for Junior Infants to Rang 2 will take place on Wednesday 21st December during the school day. A Christmas Carol Service for Rang 3-6 will take place in St. Michael’s Church on the evening of Tuesday 20th December. More information will follow later.
The school will close on Thursday 22nd December at 12pm for Christmas Holidays and will remain closed until Tuesday 10th January, which is one day later than our original school calendar. School staff will be partaking in in-service training in the school on Monday 9th January. This in-service training is by the Special Education Support Service for our ASD classroom.
On Saturday 12th November, the staff of the school received training in lifesaving CPR and AED administration, along with First Aid training for day to day situations in school. As part of this training we were encouraged to remind parents that if your child has any medical condition or allergies that we should be aware of, to please inform us immediately.
We are also in the process of establishing a senior School Choir and as always would be very appreciative of the support and expertise of any parent willing to be involved. If you are in a position to help us, please contact us at your convenience.
Can we also ask please that birthday invitations be distributed outside of school time as this has caused disappointment and upset for children in the past.
Finally, as we work towards our Green Flag for Transport, we are encouraged to remind you of safety at the school gates before and after school. We strongly encourage you to park your car and walk with your child to the school gate in the morning and to collect your child from the school gate in the afternoon. Also, where possible we encourage children to walk to school and to car pool to reduce the volume of traffic outside the school. We remind you that staff parking in the Community Centre is designed to reduce the traffic outside the school. We ask you kindly not to park in the Community Centre car park before or during school, or at home time in the afternoon.
L.P. Walsh have been in touch following contact from parents about an additional bus run. They are willing to provide this if there are a minimum of 20 children on the bus. The service would be in the morning and at 3pm in the afternoon. There would be a charge of approx €20 per child per week. Please contact the school if you are interested in this service.
We have been asked to share with you a map of the parking area outside the school and to encourage that the centre lane allows for the continuous flow of cars. For the system to work efficiently, it is preferable that cars enter from the direction of Ros Árd and exit towards the Community Centre. This will eliminate the back up of traffic that can cause the system to come to a standstill.
We thank you for your continued support in the school. This was exemplified the Halloween Coffee Morning organised by our wonderful Parents Association. We look forward to a busy few weeks ahead!
