Safety at school gates – December 2015

3rd December 2015

Dear Parents,

I have written to you earlier in the year regarding the safety of the children at the school gates before and after school. While there has been an improvement, it is still an issue of concern to all involved.

As you are aware, the centre lane is designated for traffic flow and there are spaces for set down on either side of this lane. This morning as the centre lane was being used incorrectly, an incident occurred that compromised the safety of others.

I have contacted a security company to help with the traffic situation in the mornings and evenings, along with the parking in the Community Centre. I hope this will be a short term arrangement and that we can all ensure the safety of children and parents before and after school.

As previously mentioned, the school cannot be responsible for the safety of the children outside the school gate. We strongly advise that children are accompanied by an adult on their way to and from school.

I hope we can be pro-active in relation to the safety of our children and not have to react to anymore incidents occuring outside the school gates. Please do not use the centre lane for setting down and please free up the limited parking spaces in the morning and the evening.

I thank you for your co-operation and continued support on this matter. Please feel free to contact me if you have any queries in relation to any of the above.

Le meas,

Patrick O’Connell
