It is a fantastic project about on a very local topic, the history of White’s Cross GAA. Their project will be available to view in the staffroom today. See some pictures of their project below. Well done Ciara and Allanah!

October News from Rang a Sé

Another busy month for us here in 6th class. We participated in a Marine Biology programme with The Explorers Education Programme and the Lifetime Lab. We watched videos and had two lessons via Zoom with Shazia Waheed from the Lifetime Lab. We learned all about marine life life and are currently working on our own projects which will be presented to our classmates and Shazia in November.

We completed our ‘famous faces’ art and decorated our classroom with some Halloween art which we made using tinfoil, string and cardboard.

We had our PE lessons outdoors and continued with the Athletics strand, focusing on throwing this month. We also had some fun practising the three-legged race!

Many of us dressed up for the last day of midterm and we had a raffle. We had been working hard to earn tickets all week! Check out our costumes below.

September in Rang a Sé

Sixth Class have definitely settled back in to school life and the year got off to a busy start. During September we learned all about the Olympics and Paralympics. We got the chance (via Zoom) to listen to Eamonn Flanagan, a strength and conditioning coach who works with athletes at the Sports Ireland Institute about his job and his experiences this year in Tokyo. We also asked him lots of questions about the athletes he works with.

We tried out some of the events we had learned about during P.E. as we focused on throwing, sprinting and relay racing. We also spent some time playing soccer and held our own version of the ’Poc Fada’ to tie in with our English lesson and to mark the 60th anniversary of this unique competition.

In Geography and Science we learned about the different types of rocks and used what we learned to classify some samples.. We also learned about the volcano that recently erupted in La Palma and we will continue to follow news reports about this event.

In Art, some children began work on their pieces for the Credit Union Art competition and all the children enjoyed creating works of art based on famous people they admire.

We also had a visit from some of our past pupils who now attend Carrig na bhFear secondary school and their teachers who told us about their school and answered lots of questions. Cllr. Kieran McCarthy also visited in September to tell us about some local history and to encourage us to get our projects started for the Cork Heritage Project Competition.

Finally, in SPHE and Geography we learned about diversity in our communities and undertook a diversity survey within our own class.

It has been a busy and productive month and we are looking forward to the coming weeks. Check back in at the end of October for more news from Rang a Sé!
